Uganda
The Pearl of Africa
Overview
Home turf - and still one of the most rewarding destinations on the continent. Uganda packs mountain gorillas, the source of the Nile, ten national parks and the snow-capped Rwenzoris into one compact, friendly country. Whether it's a weekend at Murchison Falls or a full gorilla-trekking circuit, we know every road and lodge personally.
Most international visitors need an eVisa (about USD 50), applied for online before arrival. East African Community citizens travel visa-free. The East Africa Tourist Visa (USD 100) covers Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda on one permit.
December–February and June–August (dry seasons) are best for safaris and gorilla trekking. Rainy seasons bring lush scenery and lower lodge rates.
Ugandan Shilling (UGX); US Dollars widely accepted at lodges
Tropical and mild year-round, 20–28°C; cooler in the highlands
